Slipping
31 Aug 2009, Music for the Blind, track 35
My request is a little bit different from normal, but something I hope fits your style. I'd like this song to be made nearly entirely of 'found sound' from your area- anything from creaking doors to engines to halogen lights to wind. The theme is up to you, but to get you started I might suggest day/night cycles. Lyrics as necessary.

The sounds are, in order of appearance:
0'00" - a small mechanical clock
0'00" - a hand drill
0'06" - a cordless electric screwdriver
0'06" - water being poured onto an extremely hot metal surface
0'24" - kick - a big cardboard box open at one end being hit
0'24" - bass - a lathe motor running with the mechanics detached
0'40" - arp - the same lathe running with the drive belt tightened
0'40" - a bicycle bell
0'40" - snare - a carrot being cut on a wooden chopping board
0'48" - pad - more lathe
0'48" - a boatswain's call
1'10" - cymbals/open hi-hat - the trailing edge of the water onto hot metal sample
1'11" - closed hi-hat - a low-decay section of the water sample
1'44" - bell arp - a double-edged hand saw
i've been slipping out of sync
i've been sleeping out of sync
i've been slipping out of sync
and every time i blink
it's like my mind is undergoing an attack again
and when i have returned
i think "by now i should have learned"
i fall away again
i suddenly come back again
----
CHORUS
i'm out of sync
the world is losing hours every day
i fall behind
the clock inside me badly misaligned
but life goes on
i'm waking up at six PM, i fall asleep at ten
and i can't get in sync again
----
i've been slipping out of sync
i've been sleeping out of sync
on average, i would say
i've lost three hours every day
that means my months are consequently three days shorter
and every time i go around
i think there must be solid ground
before i know it i have lost another quarter
i'm out of sync
i'm out of sync
i'm out of sync
----
CHORUS
